How to create Fill in the Blanks (FITB)

To add a FITB type questions-

  1. In your account, click on My Questions tab and click on Add Question button on top right side.
  2. Select the Question Type as Fill In the Blanks(FITB) from the drop down options and provide a Topic Name in which the question is supposed to be added.




  1. In the screen that opens, fill the desired text for the FITB question.
  2. To insert a blank space for the candidate to enter the correct answer, click on "Insert blank" button,  placed just below the question text box. Write the correct answer in the blank space inserted in the question.


  1. Also bifurcate the difficulty level of the question i.e Easy, Medium or Difficult.
  2. In case we need to add multiple blank spaces in the question insert a blank space for the candidate to enter the correct answer, click on "Insert blank" button, placed just below the question text box. To select the partial marks for each response, please click on "Award Partial Marks". Each blank space would now have equally distributed marks. 
  3. You can now preview the added questions by clicking on the "Preview" button.



  1. Then, click on the 'SAVE' button to save the question in the respective Skill-Set / Topic.

Add FITB questions in bulk: 

To upload bulk questions onto the platform, log in to your account and click on the ‘My Questions’ tab on the top bar. Once on the My Questions page, click on the upload arrow beside ‘Add Questions’ tab and download the bulk upload template for the relevant ‘Question Type’.








  1. You will now see a .xls fle. The first sheet of the upload template is the ‘Instruction’ sheet which is detailed manual which helps you to navigate the upload template.
  2. In the format downloaded, enter all your questions along with the following information(in the FITB sheet):
  3. Topic: Enter the ‘Question Bank’ under which you want the question to be saved on the platform. Please note that one question can have only one topic name, however questions for varying topics can be uploaded simultaneously.  (If the topic name already exists on the platform, the questions will be added to it. If the same does not exist, new topic will be created under “My Questions”). (If the topic name already exists on the platform, the questions will be added to it. If the same does not exist, a new topic will be created under “My Questions”). 
  4. Difficulty Level: Enter the appropriate difficulty level for the question (Easy, Medium, Difficult).  
  5. Question Text: Write the question. Wherever a blank is required type ‘#blank#.’ (Ex:” _______ is the capital of India.” Will be entered as “#blank#" is the capital of India.”).  
    Note: A question can contain multiple blanks. 
  6. Answers: Enter the correct answers. In case a question contains multiple blanks, enter the answers as comma separated in correct order. 
  7. Answer Description (Optional): If you want the answer description to be a part of the report, enter the appropriate description.

**Please ensure that if the fields marked as ‘Optional’ are not required, kindly leave it blank.

Note:  
  1. In case there is any error in the file that is being uploaded, Platform will give an error file in which the error will be mentioned. Correct the mentioned error, in the original file (Do not use the error file) and upload again. 
  2. In case the error mentions “Invalid HTML Tags” Kindly replace all ‘<’ symbols with ‘&lt’ and ‘>’ symbols with ‘&gt’ for all question text and answer options and upload the file again. 
  3. All the text formatting, example: bold, italic, underline, sub-script, super-script, etc. Will be removed while uploading in bulk, this needs to be added later, on the platform for the required text.
